It didn't take long into the first round before Lima landed a leg kick that caused Hawn to collapse to the canvas. Once Hawn was back up, it was another leg kick and another knockdown.
The fight never got more compelling as Lima simply kicked Hawn's leg every time the former Olympian was standing, collapsing him back to the mat. The referee eventually asked the corner if they'd seen enough and they waived the fight off. A rare moment of intelligent compassion from an MMA corner.
Here is a compilation of the leg kicks:
Instead of the fight tilting Anderson's way, Held instead ended up finding a triangle choke to lock up for the win in their lightweight tournament semifinal.
David Gomez impressed in his 170 pound feature fight with Karl Amoussou. Gomez used very slick striking against Amoussou, catching him with some clean shots.
Amoussou almost locked up a leg in the second round but Gomez survived the threat and landed some good punches from top before the round ended.
The bout went to a split decision (the Bloody Elbow scorecard had it 30-28 for Gomez), awarding Amoussou with a somewhat questionable decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-29).
The broadcast kicked off with the other lightweight tournament semifinal, a bout which saw Patricky Freire rebound from a rocky first round to score a second round TKO of Derek Campos. It's not unusual to see "Pitbull" start slow. In fact, it's becoming somewhat of a trademark for him.
But, Pitbull has the ability to turn up his offensive output. And when he did that in round two it was only a matter of seconds before Campos got put on the floor by a big ol' right hand.
Here's how the finish looked:
