Dana White: I think the Overeem fight ‘completely changed’ Travis Browne into a different person

Paul Abell-US PRESSWIRE

UFC President Dana White spoke with members of the media ahead of UFC on FOX 11, where he discussed Travis Browne’s transformation as both an athlete and a human being.

It appears Travis Browne had a near death experience in the form of a liver shot from Alistair Overeem.

UFC President Dana White revealed on Thursday afternoon that he believes the UFC Fight Night 26 main event between Browne and Overeem left "Hapa" a changed man. He described Browne's comeback from the brink of defeat in that bout as a sort of near-death experience, which ultimately allowed Browne to recalibrate himself as an elite fighter with the confidence to succeed.

"I honestly think that Alistair [Overeem] fight changed him; it completely changed him into a different person." White said at the pre-fight media scrum. "He talked to me that night after the fight and said that he had never felt so close to death and that the shots he took to the body were unbelievable. After that fight, he is a completely different person now. He is more motivated. I don't know if that showed him that he really belongs in the upper echelon of the [heavyweight] division or that he should be the champion, but he is a different guy."

The UFC head honcho is thoroughly convinced that Browne is a completely different fighter, one who is now "meaner" and more of a threat to the heavyweight division.

"I was watching some of the footage from when we went to film him for ‘Road to the octagon' and he is a completely different person. He is talking about knocking people out and finishing everybody. He is just meaner and nastier. "

Browne is scheduled to headline this weekend's UFC on FOX 11 fight card against Fabricio Werdum. The event takes place Saturday night at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.
