"Cowboy" spoke with MMAWeekly.com regarding his Brazilian opponent's touted striking and ferocious knockout power, but expressed some doubts over Barboza's ability against a Top 10 fighter such as himself.
"Edson [Barboza] brings dangerous striking and has knocked people out but I don't think he has fought anybody like me." Cerrone told MMAWeekly.com. "I really don't. The guys he has made highlight reels on have been so-and-so guys, so now he comes in the Top 10; lets see how he does."
Ultimately, Cerrone is simply hoping his opponent trains hard for the fight so that they can win one of the post-fight bonuses. The former WEC title contender has won a total of eight bonuses, including three 'Fight of the Night' awards as wells as picking up bonuses in his two most recent octagon outings.
"[I'm] not taking anything away from the guy. I've seen zero tape on him expect the guy he spun the wheel kick on in the UFC. I just hope he [expletive] trains hard and shows up because I'm looking to win one of those bonuses. "
Cerrone also discussed his interest in testing the waters at featherweight, and how it was an idea that was quickly "shut down" by UFC President Dana White.
"Dana [White] shut that [featherweight plans] down really fast. I went and talked to him and he said, 'no, not going to happen.' "
The two lightweight competitors are scheduled to meet in one of the feature fights on the UFC on FOX 11 main card, which is headlined by a heavyweight battle between Fabricio Werdum and Travis Browne.
The event takes place on Saturday, April 19 at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.
