Corassani showed himself to be a handful for the top 10 featherweight, beating him to the punch in striking exchanges and even briefly dropping him to his knees. Poirier needed time to adjust to Corassani's speed and power, and once he did he was able to get his timing down to land some hard punches of his own. The end of the 1st saw Poirier attempt the rare Peruvian Necktie, which Corassani escaped, but he was a bloody mess after the exchange prior to Poirier's failed submission.
Round 2 was all about Poirier's combinations, as he finished off the Swede with a left cross and then a stinging uppercut that busted up Corassani's nose. Corassani was swarmed before falling to the canvas, where Poirier put the fight away 42 seconds in.
Poirier (16-3) is now 8-2 in the UFC and this was his latest barnburner of a fight. A very competitive Corassani (12-4, 1 NC) sees his undefeated UFC run come to an end, but his stock should certainly rise after going toe-to-toe with one of the best in the division.
The main card isn't over, but this is likely the leading candidate for Fight of the Night.
