Although Roy Nelson scored one of the biggest KO wins of his professional career, the win was bittersweet, as "Big Country" suffered a broken hand in the process.
Nelson mentioned post-fight that he was worried that he had broken his hand and it appears that was an accurate assumption, as ToughTalk's Mike Sawyer confirmed the news on Tuesday afternoon.
"I was expecting a five round battle but things ended a little early,' Nelson said after the fight. ‘Nog has an incredibly hard head, I think I broke my hand."
The TUF 10 winner rocked former PRIDE and UFC champ Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira late in the opening round and eventually knocked him unconscious with a brutal overhand right. The win landed him a "Performance of the Night" bonus, which marked his sixth bonus in the UFC. It was also his seventh KO/TKO win in the octagon and snapped a two-fight losing streak dating back to mid-2013.
Nelson is scheduled to undergo surgery on Thursday. There is no immediate timetable available for his return.
