Lightweights Sam Stout and KJ Noons successfully petition to change their TUF Nations finale bout to 170lb

Andrew Richardson-USA TODAY Spor

The UFC revealed on Monday evening that the lightweight bout originally scheduled between Sam Stout and KJ Noons had been changed to a welterweight contest.

In an interesting turn of events, lightweights KJ Noons and Sam Stout will now be contesting their scheduled TUF Nations Finale match-up at 170lb.

According to a UFC press release, both competitors approached the UFC to request the change in weight class, which was later approved by the Quebec athletic commission, the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux.

No reason was provided for the sudden change in weight class so close to fight night.

Noons snapped a three-fight losing streak last October at UFC 166, when he defeated George Sotiropoulos via unanimous decision. He will be looking to secure consecutive wins for the first time in four years.

Stout is also coming off a victory late in 2013, as the Canadian defeated Cody McKenzie via unanimous decision.

The TUF Nations Finale: Bisping vs Kennedy take place on April 16 in Quebec City, Quebec.
