Tyrone Spong suffered a horrific Anderson Silva-esque leg break in the main event of Glory 15 last Saturday, and while many assumed he would be away from combat sports for at least a year, it seems that may not necessarily be the case.
The Dutch-Suriname fighter underwent successful leg surgery on Monday afternoon, and released a statement afterwards where he informed his fans that the procedure went "perfectly."
"I want my family, friends and fans to know that I'm okay." Spong said in a statement released on the Blackzilians website. "The trip home to Florida was a long one and I am thankful to be back in Florida. I had surgery this morning and it went perfectly. "
Spong also revealed that he suffered a "clean break" in his leg, which means that meticulous rehabilitation could allow him to be back in training in approximately six months.
"My Doctors said it turned out to be a clean break and they feel confident that I will recover 100%. They said I can be training for a fight as early as 6 months if I rehab properly. I feel very optimistic. Thank you all for your support."
