Former UFC fighter Vinny Magalhaes had the unfortunate double dose of bout withdrawals following his recent staph infection, which required hospitalization. Not only was he out of his scheduled BJJ showdown with Keenan Cornelius at last Saturday's Metamoris 3, but his MMA bout against Jason Brilz at TitanFC 28 in April was also nixed.
Titan FC CEO Jeff Aronson confirmed to Bloody Elbow that Bellator veteran Raphael Davis (13-2) has signed a multi-fight deal with the organization and will replace Magalhaes in Kansas City as part of the night's main event.
The 37-year-old Davis is a bit of a journeyman, but he has fought a few familiar faces in his seven-year MMA career. He won 3 fights in Bellator but lost his sole tournament appearance against D.J. Linderman in 2011. Davis also has submission wins over current Bellator light heavyweight champion Emanuel Newton and Magalhaes, who verbally submitted after he took Vinny's back and went for a rear-naked choke.
Here's a video (albeit in poor quality) of that win over Magalhaes a few years ago:
In addition to the Davis signing, Titan FC brought on board Fight Master runner-up Mike Bronzoulis to face Keith Johnson, and Kalib Starnes to replace D.J. Linderman against Dave Herman. This card already features a mixture of UFC veterans such as
BROCKJARDINE Brock Jardine, Daniel Roberts, Walel Watson, and up-and-comers Gleristone Santos and Ricky Legere.
