Canelo Alvarez def. Alfredo Angulo by TKO 0:47 round 10
After a loss, there's always a question of how a fighter will come back. Canelo Alvarez answered those questions in a big way tonight. In his PPV main event showdown with Alfredo Angulo, Canelo was simply phenomenal. He was aggressive from the opening bell, landed clean power shots all night, and badly hurt Angulo en route to a 10th round stoppage victory.
Perhaps most impressive from Canelo was his improved defense, as he utilized great head movement and slipping punches throughout. There was a definite feel of the Mayweather defense here, and Canelo used it well.
The ending will be much discussed, no doubt. Angulo took a lot of punishment in the fight, and by the 10th round, referee Tony Weeks had seen enough. It's hard to argue that Angulo was badly beaten, but there was no one definitive combo or shot that ended it. After a single clean uppercut, Weeks stepped in, ending Angulo's night in the interest of the fighter's safety, but drawing the ire of fans in the process.
