Following the announcement that The Mauler would be the next challenger to the throne, champion Jon Jones proposes a contender's bout between Gus and Cormier.

In the headlining fight of Saturday's UFC Fight Night Gustafsson vs. Manuwa, light heavyweight Alexander Gustafsson scored a technical knockout over Jimi Manuwa in London, England. The impressive victory earned "The Mauler" two fight night bonuses and a promise from UFC president Dana White that he's now the number one contender.

Current champion Jon Jones, who's scheduled to fight Glover Teixeira at UFC 172 in April, has another idea in mind:

Daniel Cormier has been calling out Jones since long before he finally made the drop to the 205 lb. division. However, when Rashad Evans was injured and replaced by Patrick Cummins, he saw his title aspirations delayed.

Jones isn't exactly wrong that a fight between Gus and DC would "make sense." In fact, when Gustafsson wasn't granted an immediate rematch after his last title shot at UFC 165, this was one of the more exciting options for him. However, there are no other contenders waiting in the wings right now. Unless Jones is planning on a lot of time off after fighting Glover, Gustafsson makes the most sense as the next contender.

For his part, Cormier says he's ready for that fight:
