It's (semi) official. UFC president Dana White has confirmed that Alexander Gustafsson will get the next title shot. He'll face the winner of UFC 172's Jon Jones vs. Glover Teixeira bout. Gustafsson gave Jones one of the sternest challenges of his title reign at UFC 165 when he took the champ to a five round decision. Many felt Gustafsson was winning the bout until he was hurt by a fourth round elbow.
Gustafsson destroyed England's Jimi Manuwa tonight in London at UFC Fight Night: Gustaffson vs. Manuwa. Ending Manuwa's career undefeated status with extreme brutality. Gustafsson held Manuwa down while he hunted for submissions in the first round but in round 2, the rangy Swede hurt Manuwa with a knee to the face and followed him down for the TKO finish.
Jones is favored to beat Teixiera at UFC 172 in April. The only person who will be disappointed to hear today's news will be Daniel Cormier who had hoped to fight Rashad Evans at UFC 170 but instead fought late substitute Patrick Cummins and thereby lost his claim on an immediate title shot.
