Here are some of the better prospects in action this weekend. I won't be writing a piece for next week, but in two weeks I will have an update to my top 10 HW prospects, as three of the top 10 have signed with either UFC or WSOF.
King of the Cage - 6 Mar - Highland, CA
Henry Corrales (8-0) vs. Seth Dikun (10-6)
Corrales has a wrestling, and submission based game that has served him very well to this point as his first five victories came by way of submission.
(As always with RFA, the card is stocked with prospects, I'm just going to list the top two fights here)
Miles Marshall (3-1) vs. Andrew Sanchez (4-1)
Age: 27 Age: 25
Height: 6'0 Height: 6'1
Marshall was a Junior college wrestler, who compiled a 22-2 amateur record before turning pro. He has very powerful ground and pound, and an exciting fighting style. Sanchez was a 2 x NAIA National Champion, and 4 x All-American wrestler. He also compiled a nice amateur record of 6-0 before turning pro. The winner of this fight will fight for the RFA Middleweight title.
Chidi Njokuani (10-4) vs. Chris Heatherly (7-1)
Age: 25 Age:
Height: 6'3 Height: 5'9
This is the best prospect fight of the week, as the winner will likely end up in the UFC very soon. Njokuani is the brother of current UFC LW Anthony Njokuani, and a very good striker. His weakness has always been when the fight hits the ground. Heatherly will be giving up a lot of height and reach but may be able to use his wrestling base to take the fight to the mat, where he will likely have a significant advantage.
Fight Exclusive Night - 8 Mar - Warsaw, Poland
Tymoteusz Swiatek (12-1) vs. Gerard Linder (4-0)
Swiatek is another young Polish fighter grabbling a lot of attention in MMA. He has finished 10 of his 12 victories with the only loss came to one of my top FLW prospects Marcin Lasota.
Review from last week:
EFC - Africa - 27 Feb - Johannesburg, South Africa
Frederich Naumann (4-1) was TKO'd by Leon Mynhardt (12-6) early in the 1st round.
PXC - 28 Feb - Guam
Kailin Curran (3-0) picked up a UD over Yoojin Jung (0-1)
M-1 Global - 28 Feb - St. Petersburg, Russia
Denis Smoldarev (6-0) was able to stop Ante Delija (8-2) in the 2nd round. I'd expect Smoldarev to be firmly on the UFC's radar.
Ilya Doderkin (5-0) submitted Nenad Avramovic (1-2) by triangle choke in the 2nd round.
Musa Khamanaev (14-3) stopped Vladimir Nikolaev (10-2) in the 2nd round.
Titan FC - 28 Feb - Kansas City, Kansas
Professional MMA Challenge - 1 Mar -Poland
Sean Strickland (13-0) vs. Tomasz Drwal (20-4) was scrapped as Strickland signed with the UFC.
Tomasz Kondracluk (11-4) stopped Lukasz Klinger (6-1) in the 1st round.
I'm not perfect, if I've missed a prospect let me know in the comments section.
