UFC Welterweight contender Carlos Condit confirmed today that he had been willing to rematch Nick Diaz but that Diaz turned the fight down. He's consoling himself with a title shot if he can beat Tyron Woodley at UFC 171.

Carlos Condit won the UFC Interim Welterweight title with a decision win over Nick Diaz at UFC 143 back in February, 2012. He revealed today that he was willing to give Diaz a rematch at UFC 171 but Diaz turned down the fight.

Here's what Condit said on today's UFC 171 media conference call (transcribed by MMA Fighting):

"The fight was offered to me. I agreed," Condit confirmed on a Thursday media conference call. "I thought the first fight, there was obviously a lot of controversy after the fact. (It's) probably a rematch a lot of people want to see, a lot of hype, a lot of buzz. It's the type of fight I want to be in, so you know, I pretty much agreed right off the bat.

"Nick, for whatever reason, I'm sure he's got his reasons, didn't take the fight. But in the future I would be interested in the fight. I think rematches are always intriguing, especially when they're close like that one."

Condit can console himself with this tweet from Fox Sports:
