Mark Hunt on challenge from Brendan Schaub: 'That would be like going backwards'

Paul Abell-US PRESSWIRE

UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub would apparently like to fight Mark Hunt next. When Hunt was asked about it, he offered up a typically amusing response to the potential fight.

Brendan Schaub may have bitten off a little more than he can chew. The UFC heavyweight is coming off a submission win over Matt Mitrione, and his manager believes that he's due for a step up in competition. But when that step up was informed about it, he had a pretty good response. From MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani on UFC Tonight:

"I spoke to Brendan Schaub's manager, Lex McMahon, and he told me they want to fight Mark Hunt next. He's expected to come back in summer. I asked Mark Hunt about it, and he said fighting Brendan would be like going backwards, but if he wants go to sleep first, than sure, why not."

Schaub (10-3) has won two in a row including the win over Mitrione. All three of his career losses came via knockout. Hunt (9-8-1) is coming off a thrilling draw with Antonio Silva that was a candidate for 2013 fight of the year. He's been out with an injured hand since then.

Hunt currently sits in the eight spot at heavyweight in the official UFC rankings, while Schaub occupies the 14 spot.
