UFC Fight Night: Gustafsson vs. Manuwa - The Cut List

Bruce Kluckhohn-US PRESSWIRE

A few fighters will need a win to stay in the UFC on Saturday night in London. Who are they?

I'm going to be honest with you folks - the last few events, combined with the UFC's new policy of keeping all their fighters, has done irreparable damage to this series of articles. To the point that I didn't even do one for the TUF China Finale because the only fighter on the list would have been Nam Phan. Guess what? He got blasted. And guess what? He'll probably still be around for 22 more fights. So what was the point?

Nonetheless, I will persevere and continue to write these using the idea the the UFC might cut someone, someday, and it'll be based on their performance (or lack thereof). Not because they held a gun to someone's head, or because they want to go back to kickboxing due to their hatred for grappling. Can you tell this is frustrating? Yeah, it's a bit frustrating. Anyway, let's get this done so I can move on and write about fake scuffles used for lame promotion, or TRT, or a UFC champion belittling a guy half his size, or something else that has nothing to do with why I watch this sport. Happy Thursday!

Likely to be cut with a loss

Ilir Latifi - Yes, he saved a main event for the UFC last year. But fans crapped all over it and the fight itself. If he loses again, why would they have any reason to keep him around? Maybe they could throw him on one more Euro card or something, but it just seems like a spot they could use for someone more suited to LHW. Or he could cut to middleweight I guess.

Possibly cut with a loss

Davey Grant - As usual, the UFC is extra careful to keep around UK fighters and they did invest some time into Grant in The Ultimate Fighter. But TUF runner-ups (with the exception of Uriah Hall) have mostly been getting one more shot and if they can't pick up a win, they're gone. I can see them treating Grant differently than most, but I think it depends on how the fight goes with Roland Delorme.

Phil Harris - He's 1-2 in the UFC thus far and has been stopped in both his losses. The UFC has surprisingly brought in a lot of flyweights lately (I think they're up to 28 now) so there's no need to keep Harris around if he loses. Especially if he gets finished.
