Titan FC owner Jeff Aronson announced that UFC veteran Matt Riddle will face Brazilian MMA legend Jose "Pele" Landi-Jons for the organization's vacant Welterweight title at Titan FC 29 to be held in May or June.
Riddle, a UFC veteran with an 8-3 record in the Octagon, was drummed out of the sport's biggest promotion following multiple drug test failures for marijuana. He then signed a contract with Bellator but managed to get cut by that promotion before stepping into the cage.
He's 1-0 for Titan.
Landi-Jons is a 40-year-old legend of the sport, one of the first fighters to incorporate Muay Thai striking into his MMA game and a founding member of the legendary Chute Boxe camp. Pele first came to international attention for his epic two-bout feud with BJJ'er Jorge "Macaco" Patino in 1996-97. He would go on to beat two UFC champs (Matt Hughes and Pat Miletich) and take the much larger Chuck Liddell to a hard-fought decision loss, but after a disappointing 0-2 run in Pride he never again reached the top levels of the game.
