Bellator 114: Shlemenko vs Ward - Live results and play-by-play

Alexander Shlemenko takes on Brennan Ward in a middleweight championship fight at Bellator 114.

Bellator gets back to business tonight with Bellator 114 live on Spike TV from the Maverik Center in West Valley, Utah. Alexander Shlemenko will be in action, defending his Bellator middleweight title against the last 185 pound tournament winner, Brennan Ward.

The night will also see the semifinals of the featherweight tournament. Desmond Green takes on Will Martinez and Matt Bessette will face Daniel Weichel. Also, former UFC Ultimate Fighter winner Kendall Grove takes a crack at a Bellator tournament when he faces the very tough Brett Cooper.

Brett Cooper vs. Kendall Grove - Round 1 - Grove with a leg kick and then he begins to circle and throw the jab. Another leg kick for Grove and then one in return from Cooper. Cooper with a left and then Grove throws a punch but falls when Cooper throws a leg kick. Now Grove with a takedown. Working to the back as Cooper tries to stand up. Grove has the back but is having trouble locking in a choke. Cooper tries to shrug him off but Grove keeps the back. Grove with the body triangle with 90 seconds left int he round. Grove tries again and can't lock in the body triangle. Grove pouring it on as the round winds down, now in full mount and pounding away as Cooper covers up. 10-9 Grove.

Round 2 - Cooper throwing some heat early on but it's Grove with a simple one-two that lands best. Cooper with a nice uppercut, Grove with a clinch and a knee. Cooper gets inside with a nice hook and uppercut. Huge shot from Cooper drops Grove and Cooper swarms. Huge flurry of shots on the ground and Grove goes out. Brett Cooper wins by TKO (punches), round 2.

Desmond Green vs. Will Martinez - Round 1 - Green with a leg kick, he's working in and out while Martinez looks slower.Green in and out with a few punches but Martinez with a nice right hand. Now Green with the takedown. Body kick from Martinez lands hard and now they trade some punches. Quick double-leg from Green now and he's back on top. Up kick lands hard for Martinez, so Green gets back in the guard. 10-9 Green.

Round 2 - More of the same in round two. Green is using his wrestling to pull away through safe top control. 10-9 Green

Round 3 - Green bouncing around and picking spots to throw a shot and score and get out. Martinez is slowing down but he does land a good shot, but that's not enough to win him the round or the fight. 10-9 Green.

Official scorecards: 29-28, 30-27, 30-27. Des Green wins by unanimous decision.

Matt Bessette vs. Daniel Weichel - Round 1 - Weichel with a takedown and some hard punches before Bessette  tries to work some mission control. Weichel with some more hard ground and pound. Bessette not doing a ton off his back while Weichel is just working him over with patient offense. Weichel looks for an armbar which allows Bessette back to his feet to land a body kick and then a head kick that is partially blocked. Bessette with some knees to the body as the round ends. 10-9 Weichel.

Round 2 - Bessette able to keep things on the feet for the start of the round, working some good punches and kicks and forcing Weichel to move backward. Weichel looks gassed and just doesn't have anything this round as Bessette takes over. 10-9 Bessette.

Round 3 -Weichel manages the takedown early in round three. He manages to stay safely on top and work enough ground and pound to win the round. 10-9 Weichel.

Official scorecards: 29-28, 29-28, 30-27. Daniel Weichel wins by unanimous decision.

Alexander Shlemenko vs. Brennan Ward - Round 1 -Shlemenko landing some good shots early and now he lands a solid shot that causes Ward to back up and scream at him. Ward now trying for the takedown and he has the back and works a face crank that doesn't get the submission. Shlemenko back to his feet and he lands a few hard punches before they go to the ground again with Ward on Shlemenko's back. The round ends and I still give it to Shlemenko based on actually landing the damage. 10-9 Shlemenko.

Round 2 - Ward with a right hand and Shlemenko returns fire with a big shot and now Shlemenko working the body and a knee to the head. Ward gets caught shooting in and Shlemenko has a guillotine choke that gets a very quick tap. Alexander Shlemenko wins by submission (guillotine choke), round 2.
