Cain Velasquez drops puck at San Jose Sharks game and helps announce UFC on Fox 12 event for July

Ron Chenoy-US PRESSWIRE

UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez dropped the puck prior to Thursday's San Jose Sharks game, and let the fans in attendance know the UFC will be holding an event at the SAP Center on July 26

UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez was a guest of the San Jose Sharks on Thursday night. Velasquez, who trains out of American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) in San Jose, was on hand for two reasons. The first was to drop the ceremonial first puck; the second was to announce that the UFC was returning to the SAP Center for a July 26 fight card.

According to FoxSports.com the Saturday night event will be broadcast on Fox.

The July 26 event will mark the fourth time the promotion has held an event at the arena, which was previously HP Pavilion. The last time the UFC made a stop in the city was April 20 of last year for UFC on Fox 7. A reported crowd of 13,506 attended that event, which was headlined by a lightweight title bout then champion Benson Henderson and Gilbert Melendez.

The two other events that were held at the arena were UFC on Fuel 4, which drew 4,250 fans, and UFC 139, which had an attendance of 13,832.

No fights have been announced for the event at this time.
