It appears that another bout for the UFC Fight Night card in Brazil on May 31st is close to coming to fruition. The potential bout will take place in the welterweight division, and features two fighters badly in need of a win. MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani has the news:
Maia (18-6) has dropped two bouts in a row, albeit against top competition. He narrowly lost a five-round split decision to Jake Shields in October, and was decisioned by Rory MacDonald at UFC 170 last month.
Pierce (17-6) hasn't competed since his leg was destroyed by Rousimar Palhares in October. That loss stopped a four-fight winning streak for Pierce and earned Palhares a pink slip for holding the submission for too long. Pierce is 9-4 in the UFC overall.
