Two 2013 unsuccessful flyweight title challengers will square off in Albuquerque this June. The UFC confirmed (via Albuquerque Journal) that John Dodson (15-6) is set to face John Moraga (14-2), who he faced at bantamweight back in 2010:
Dodson is regarded as one of the hardest punchers pound-for-pound in the sport, and he showcased that with his 1st round knockout of Darrell Montague at UFC 166. Three of his four UFC wins have come by knockout or TKO, and he twice dropped Demetrious Johnson in their 2013 title fight before losing a hard-fought unanimous decision.
Moraga was manhandled by "Mighty Mouse" at UFC on Fox 8 and submitted with a 5th around armbar. He'd previously picked up stoppage wins over Chris Cariaso and Ulysses Gomez to springboard towards a title shot. Moraga's most recent outing occurred in January, when he picked up a split decision win over Dustin Ortiz.
As mentioned earlier, Dodson and Moraga fought at 135 lbs in 2010, with Dodson capturing a unanimous decision at Nemesis Fighting in Puerto Rico. That stands as Moraga's sole defeat outside of the UFC, and it was Dodson's last pro fight before he joined the cast of TUF 14, which he would go on to win.
UFC Fight Night airs live on Fox Sports 1, and you can assure yourself this will be part of the night's main card. Lightweights Ben Henderson and Rustam Khabilov headline the UFC's first trip to New Mexico.
