Weidman's Injury: The Positive Side

News broke early this week that Chris Weidman was injured, and the fight with Lyoto Machida was postponed. My initial reaction began with an F and ended in K. This is one fight I truly want to see, and I want to see it now! Although the more I think about it, the more it makes sense to reschedule for the 4th of July weekend.

Now I'm Canadian, and I've yet to meet a fellow country man who's not proud of Canada. The Americans though, well you'll never meet a prouder bunch. With that being said, re-booking this fight on the biggest weekend in the USA is pure gold for the UFC. Look at the ultra fancy fight poster they had for UFC 173. It's clear they wanted to market this fight as USA vs Brazil for the belt.

As if the July weekend isn't enough, they also have international fight week taking place. Plus for the first time in the history of the UFC, they will hold two events to cap the week off. With Weidman vs Machida as the main event for UFC 175, and the TUF 19 finale. Both events will take place at the Mandalay Bay events center. UFC 175 will take place on Saturday July 5, with the TUF 19 finale being held on Sunday the 6th.

All these factors combined makes what should be a great fight even better. One can only hope that Weidman is healthy, and ready to go in July.

I already hear the USA USA USA chants echoing through the Mandalay Bay.
