The athletic commission that oversees mixed martial arts in Brazil has stated that they have no plans to review the bout between Jussier Formiga and Scott Jorgensen that took place this past Sunday night on the undercard of UFC Fight Night: Henderson vs Shogun 2.
Formiga picked up a submission win with a rear naked choke, but that choke only came after what appeared to be an unintentional -- but illegal -- headbutt.
Jorgensen tweeted immediately after the fight that he was basically knocked out by the headbutt and woke up in the choke. Stating also that he believed the fight should be overturned to a no contest.
The commission, however, won't review it as they haven't received a formal request. MMA Fighting with the details:
Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission (CABMMA) director Cristiano Sampaio said that the commission won’t do anything if Jorgensen doesn’t officially ask for it.
"We didn’t receive any request from him or his team," Sampaio told MMAFighting.com on Tuesday. "If the fighter does not make an official request, (CABMMA) won’t evaluate the case."
While it would seem like a simple solution, just request the review, I will never understand the idea that commissions can't simply review a fight and make an independent determination in cases like this.
Getting the result right should always be priority one for a commission, but that rarely seems to be the case.
