The main event for the UFC's Memorial Day card in Las Vegas has been bumped back a couple of months. UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman has suffered an injury that has forced him out of a UFC 173 title defense against Lyoto Machida, and the bout has been delayed until the July 4th card. From UFC.com:
The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced today that middleweight champion Chris Weidman has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled title defense against Lyoto Machida on May 24. Weidman suffered a knee injury that will require minor surgery and his bout with Machida has been rescheduled for Saturday, July 5. A new main event for UFC 173 on May 24 will be announced in the days to come.
It will be very interesting to see what they put in place in the main event of the May show now, considering that it's one of their centerpiece events of the year and there aren't many draws available on short notice.
