Phil Davis rips UFC champ Jon Jones' matchmaking efforts

UFC Light Heavyweight contender Phil Davis speaks to Sports Net Canada about champ Jon Jones' ideas on matchmaking.

When Jon Jones defends his UFC Light Heavyweight title against Glover Teixeira at UFC 172 there will be a co-main event featuring two men who would like to be the next to fight for the title: Phil Davis vs. Anthony Johnson. Davis isn't thrilled to be fighting "Rumble" a non-ranked opponent making his return to the UFC after an absence of several years.

In the interview above with Sports Net Canada Davis objects to what he sees as Jones' attempted meddling with the booking of bouts in the division. Here's the key quotes (transcription via MMA Fighting):

"Why not get him a job? Throw him on payroll. See what he can really do with the lightweights. He seems to matchmake so well. I don't know. I feel bad for [Jones], but he put himself into an interesting predicament. 'Why not just have a light heavyweight tournament and have the winner fight Jon Jones?' That's pretty much what he's saying. 'You guys should have a tournament.' Call it 'The Ultimate Jon Jones Fighting Championship.'
