UFC Fight Night 38 (39? 76? 44? Hike!) is in the books and boy was it an entertaining show. All but 4 fights ended in a finish, and the biggest one of all was Dan Henderson's stunning comeback TKO of Mauricio Rua in the night's main event. That finish not only capped off the eventual Fight of the Night, but also gave Henderson a Performance of the Night bonus, as well. Here's the full list of $50,000 bonuses:
-- Fight of the Night: Mauricio Rua vs. Dan Henderson
-- Performance of the Night: Dan Henderson and Godofredo Pepey
This was Shogun's 3rd FOTN bonus, and both fights against Henderson have been awarded that honor. Unfortunately, he's been on the losing end of both and Henderson became just the 2nd man to finish him with strikes, with Jon Jones the 1st to do so in 2011. As for Henderson, this is his first KO in the UFC since flattening Michael Bisping at UFC 100 in 2009, with all of his other post-Bisping knockouts coming in Strikeforce.
Pepey was in desperate need of a win following consecutive knockout losses to Sam Sicilia and Felipe Arantes, and he got his win in superb fashion, KOing Noad Lahat via flying knee in the opening preliminary bout of the evening. It's the Brazilian's first post-fight bonus in his UFC career.
What do you think? FOTN was a no-brainer and deserved for both men but did the UFC get it right by choosing Henderson and Pepey?
