When Will Chope was released by the UFC following the surfacing of an old bad-conduct Air Force discharge for repeated incidents of domestic violence, he wasn't the only one losing out in the deal. Chope was scheduled to face Diego Brandao tonight as the UFC returned to Fox Sports 1.
Brandao, now without a fight on incredibly short notice, won't be losing out on his potential winnings according to MMA Fighting:
Not only was the fight canceled following the report, but according to Globo.com, Chope has also been released from the promotion, which the UFC confirmed Sunday morning. The organization also announced that Brandao will receive his show and win money.
"Tonight's featherweight bout between Will Chope and Diego Brandao has been canceled after UFC officials were made aware of Chope's previous military conviction," the promotion stated in a press release. "The UFC does not condone behavior of this nature whatsoever and Chope has been released from his contract."
Jeremy Botter of Bleacher Report added that Brandao could get a fight as soon as next month:
Not only is the UFC paying Brandao his show and win money, but they’re working on getting him an opponent for an April card.— Jeremy Botter (@jeremybotter) March 23, 2014
