Former UFC heavyweight Pat Barry had a week to remember in Virginia as he made his return to kickboxing.
If you're bummed out over other recent news in the world of combat sports, this should cheer you up. Former UFC heavyweight Pat Barry
had a triumphant return to kickboxing in Virginia on Saturday, but on Thursday night he played the role of hero for a woman trapped in a hotel bathroom. In an interview with Fox Sports
, Barry described the situation, which involved him having to kick two doors down:
Really, I thought it was a cat, but I kept hearing it," Barry told FOX Sports. "Opened the door and I could hear that it wasn't a cat but a woman screaming help. I found the door and right before I went through it, I heard her say she was trapped in the bathroom. When I realized she wasn't being murdered, I decided this isn't a major threat so I called management first."
Management couldn't open the door to the woman's room, so Barry was given the a-okay to kick it down. Then they couldn't get inside the bathroom (also locked), so "HD" once again was called into action. Barry described the situation through the use of his caps-lock heavy Twitter account:
The woman was safe and sound beyond her claustrophobia setting in having been in the bathroom for over an hour. Barry is well-regarded as one of the sport's "nice guys" and while there wasn't any imminent danger this was still a good story to read.
Barry fought Ed Burris last night in Richmond, winning by 2nd round TKO and earning his first win on the kickboxing circuit since August 2007. He is scheduled to make his Glory debut in May against Zack Mwekassa. You can see video of the brutal finish below:
