Is Rich Franklin really retired? The 39-year-old former UFC middleweight champion has been out of action since he was knocked out by Cung Le in November 2012, but he had been on the fence about whether he'd take one more fight or not. According to Ariel Helwani on UFC Tonight, Franklin was offered a bout in his hometown of Cincinnati against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira on May 10th, but he turned it down:
Rich Franklin was recently offered a fight against Lil' Nog, but turned it down due to his growing biz. No word if he will ever fight again.— Ariel Helwani (@arielhelwani) March 19, 2014
Franklin (29-7, 1 NC) has spent the last two years working towards opening a chain of juice bars and bakeries with a partner. He opened a store in Beverly Hills called ZeLin in January, and has been occupied with that. While it's not all that surprising that he'd turn down a bout due to this, the chance to fight in his hometown for the first time since 2007 must have been tempting.
In the end though, Franklin is still on the sidelines and Lil Nog is still looking for an opponent.
