Mauricio Rua and Dan Henderson took part in an unforgettable thriller in San Jose, CA at UFC 139. The five-round non-title main event was brand new to the UFC, and this was the 2nd one of its kind. Shogun and Hendo produced one of the best fights of 2011, with Henderson getting the (somewhat controversial) 48-47 unanimous decision despite all signs pointing to a 10-8 5th round for Shogun. Henderson was granted a title shot he never actually fulfilled thanks to Greg Jackson killing UFC 151, the sport of MMA, and (allegedly) Santa Claus. Shogun is no longer a title contender, Henderson has lost 3 in a row, so we're left with a rematch that headlines the UFC's first trip to Natal, Brazil.
What is obviously a big issue for this event is that Henderson is expected to be the last fighter approved to use TRT. Brazil's AC has banned TRT usage, which was spurred on by Nevada's commission (and the UFC) making the big announcement late last month.
The co-main event sees C.B. Dollaway face Cezar Ferreira, while TUF Brazil 2 winner Leo Santos battles TUF Smashes LW winner Norman Parke. Flyweights Scott Jorgensen and Jussier Formiga are the biggest names on the prelims, with both in desperate need of a victory.
This is a rare Sunday UFC show because FS1 is airing Motocross the day before. Here's a look at the full fight card for March 23rd:
