UFC 171 results: Frank Trevino takes unanimous decision over Renee Forte in exciting brawl

After giving up the first round, Trevino rallied to take the final two from a very game opponent in Renee Forte.

Closing out the Fight Pass prelims for UFC 171, TUF Brazil 1 veteran Renee Forte fought Frank Trevino in a lightweight bout. Forte took control in the first with an early takedown and top control. Trevino was able to recover by the second in a fight that turned into a brawl by the final bell. In the end it was Trevino who got the nod on all three judges' cards.

A minute into the first round, Forte blitzed Trevino with a combo then changed levels to score a takedown. He immediately took back control to begin threatening for a rear naked choke. Trevino finally escaped Forte's back control and went into scramble-mode. Forte stayed on top delivering ground strikes before Frank finally got back to his feet. Forte landed an uppercut just before the bell.

Trevino and Forte exchanged blows on the feet through the first two minute of the second round. With three minutes left, Trevino began to find his range and timing, landing straight punches and combinations. Forte lunged in for a right hook that found its mark. Forte was able to close the distance and land a takedown with just over a minute left in the round. Trevino responded with a series of elbows from his back before returning to his feet. He clinched up with Forte and hit a takedown of his own. The round ended with Trevino holding forte in a fron headlock against the fence.

Both fighters came out aggressive in the final round. Forte pressured swinging wildly but Trevino caught a kick and tripped him. Trevino grabbed a clinch against the cage and exited with a spinning elbow. Forte initiated another clinch but was eventually reversed and took a series of knees to the thigh. After they separated Trevino landed a solid combination, but Renee kept moving forward and landed a series of punches of hsi own. Forte landed a takedown into back control with about 90 seconds left on the clock. TRevino escaped and took control of the clinch. Back at striking range with only thirty seconds left and both fighters continued to throw leather until the final bell.
