Following Johny Hendricks' weighing in at 171.5 pounds -- a full pound-and-a-half over the limit - the UFC went on Fox Sports 2 and said that his opponent Robbie Lawler would still be eligible to win the belt if he beats Henricks tomorrow night.
Hendricks still has some time to make weight.
There is precedent for this scenario in boxing. Two weeks ago WBO Featherweight champ Orlando Salido lost his belt on the scale but still beat Vasyl Lomachenko by split decision and prevented Lomchenko from taking the title.
Last June the WBO Featherweight title was only on the line for one fighter when Mikey Garcia failed to make weight but went on to KO opponent Juan Manuel Lopez.
What's the deal with the WBO Featherweight title?
Bloody Elbow will have the results of Hendricks' attempt to make weight on the second attempt as soon as it takes place as well as complete results of UFC 171: Hendricks vs. Lawler.
