UFC 173 will have a distinct TUF 15 flavor on the undercard, with both the finalists from the show competing in separate bouts. The first bout features the winner, Michael Chiesa, taking on huge Brazilian lightweight Francisco Trinaldo. UFC.com has the news:
After wins in three of his last four bouts, Brazilian lightweight Francisco "Massaranduba" Trinaldo will make his United States debut at UFC 173 on May 24, as he has verbally agreed to face Ultimate Fighter season 15 winner Michael Chiesa in Las Vegas.
Chiesa (10-1) is 3-1 in the UFC thus far. His only loss came at the hands of Jorge Masvidal at UFC on Fox 8, but he rebounded with a win over fellow TUF winner Colton Smith at UFC Fight for the Troops 3 in November. Trinaldo (14-3), a cast member on TUF Brazil 1, is 4-2 in the UFC and is coming off a split decision win over Jesse Ronson at UFC Fight Night 36 last month.
Now, onto the other fight that is set for the card. TUF 15 runner-up Al Iaquinta will step into the octagon to face off with Canadian Mitch Clarke. This bit of info comes from the Long Island Newsday:
Iaquinta, from Wantagh, takes his three-fight win streak to Las Vegas to fight lightweight Mitch Clarke at UFC 173 on May 24 at the MGM Grand. Both fighters have verbally agreed to the bout.
Iaquinta (8-2) most recently defeated prospect Kevin Lee by unanimous decision at UFC 169 last month. Clarke (10-2) picked up his first UFC win last June by taking a unanimous decision over John Maguire. He's 1-2 in the organization overall.
