Former UFC HW title challenger Paul Buentello remembers his first fights in Amarillo, Texas

Legacy FC HW Paul Buentello looks back at his early days in MMA in the USFW in Amarillo, TX in the 1990s where he competed against legends like Evan Tanner and Heath Herring.

MMA veteran and former UFC Heavyweight title challenger Paul Buentello reminisces about his early days in the sport in Amarillo, Texas' legendary Unified Shoot Wrestling Federation in the late 1990s. Buentello fought fellow future UFC stars like Evan Tanner and Heath Herring in the USWF, a shootfighting league founded by Steve Nelson.

It's pretty forgotten now, but USWF played a big role in the growth of MMA in the U.S. in the 1990s.

Buentello is expected to face Myron Dennis on March 15, 2014, at Legacy FC 29 for their vacant Light Heavyweight championship.
