South Florida's NBC affiliate is reporting a disturbance by a man at a Miami-area Jiu Jutsu school. The man then traveled back to his home, and locked himself in his home, which has been surrounded by police and approached by a SWAT unit. The story appears on NBCMiami.com
A local property search reveals that this property belongs to UFC veteran Thiago Silva. No additional details of the story, such as the presence of weapons or other people in the house, have been confirmed.
Bloody Elbow will do its best to update this story as it progresses.
MMA Junkie adds their voice:
Silva was reportedly involved in a dispute at Pablo Popovitch Mixed Martial Arts Academy earlier in the evening, which Florida’s Local10.com identified only by address. The Brazilian slugger was apparently armed at the time of the incident.
Silva then reportedly left the scene and retreated to his apartment at Coral Heights Court in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., where he barricaded himself inside his residence before ultimately surrendering to authorities, which included a S.W.A.T. team that was called to the scene.
