Here are some of the better prospects in action this weekend.
Legacy FC - 21 Feb - San Antonio, TX
Bubba Bush (6-2) vs. Rakim Cleveland (6-3)
Bush doesn't have the highly decorated wrestling background of some others in MMA, but he uses his wrestling base very well in the cage. In addition to very good takedowns, Bush has a Brown Belt in BJJ that helps to round out a very powerful and effective grappling game.
Age: 25 Age:28
Height: 5'11 Height: 5'8
Jackson has finished all seven of his opponents, five by submission. Jackson was an NAIA All-American wrestler in 2012 while wrestling at Missouri Valley College. Jackson has two fights under the Bellator banner, but does not appear to be contractually tied to that organization. Tucker has also submitted his opponent in all of his victories, but he was finished by prospect Kevin Aguilar last April for his only loss
M4TC - 22 Feb - Tyne and Wear, England
James Mulheron (4-0) vs. Stav Economou (15-3-1)
Mulheron takes a big step up in competition when he locks horn with one of the better European HWs in Economou. James isn't very tall for a HW but he is looking to press his opponent up against the cage, get a takedown and then work on his ground and pound.
Ryan Scope (7-0) vs. Phil Flynn (10-7)
For the second time in the last year a highly anticipated fight between Scope and fellow undefeated prospect Walter Gahadza has been scratched. The first time Scope got injured, this time Gahadza suffered a broken finger causing the fight to get scratched. Scope can still pick up a nice win here, and I'm sure that M4TC will try again to make the Gahadza match.
CFFC - 22 Feb - King of Prussia, PA
Jordan Stiner (6-0) vs. Levan Makashvili (6-0)
Age: 28 Age: 25
Height: 5'9 Height: 5'8
This is the 3rd straight fight where Stiner is facing an undefeated opponent. In the last two he was able to submit Donny Ooton (4-1), and then he scored a UD over Jarred Mercado (11-1) last time out. Makashvili has a kickboxing background and has fought for Glory in the past.
Yuta Sasaki (15-1-2) vs. Akihito Ishihara (6-1-1)
Age: 24 Age: 22
Height: 5'10 Height: 5'4
Sasaki is firmly on the UFC's radar and despite recent claims that he is happy fighting in Japan for another year, I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up in the rapidly improving UFC Bantamweight division very soon. Ishihara does not look to be an easy fight as his only loss is to recent UFC signee Michinori Tanaka, and his draw was a technical draw when both fighters fell through the ropes and out of the ring.
Takeshi Kasugai (13-2-1) vs. Hiromasa Ogikubo (10-3)
Kasugai brings a nine fight-winning streak into the opening round of an eight man tournament. If he can run the table there is a good shot he could be heading for UFC.
Review from last week:
Iron Cage Warriors - 14 Feb - Jastrzebie Zdrol, Poland
Mateusz Teodorczuk (11-2) fight with Vasily Fedorych (16-2) was cancelled when Teodorczuk suffered a hand injury.
Cage Warriors FC - 15 Feb - London, England
Cory Tait (8-2) submitted James Pennington (9-2) with a 1st round Guillotine.
Top 10 Welterweight prospect Danny Roberts (10-1) picked up a UD over Juan Manuel Suarez (13-6).
ASAP - 15 Feb - Mohegan Sun Casino, CT
Tyler King (7-2) saw his 3 fight win streak come to an end as Eric Bedard (6-4) TKO'd him in the 1st round.
WCFC - 15 Feb - Sacramento, CA
Josh Berkovic (5-0) picked up the biggest win of his young MMA career when he submitted Team Alpha Male's Anthony Avila (12-3) in the 1st round.
I'm not perfect, if I've missed a prospect let me know in the comments section.
