UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey was recently described by Dana White "the biggest star we've ever had". While that might be debatable, it's pretty clear that Rousey's opinion does hold some weight. And in the wake of Jessica Eye's drug test failure for marijuana, the champ made it clear that she is not a fan of testing for the drug (via MMA Junkie):
"Honestly I feel like weed is not a performance-enhancing drug at all. We are tested for it for entirely political reasons. The athletic commission is there to make sure we compete fairly and they are testing us for something that has nothing to do with athletic competition."
"It is beyond their rights. It’s actually an invasion of privacy."
Jessica Eye failed test for marijuana
Contrary to earlier reports, UFC women's bantamweight Jessica Eye's failed UFC 166 drug test was not a result of blood thinners, but rather marijuana.
According to White (via Fox Sports), Eye was barely over the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation's threshold of 15 ng/ml. The state hasn't updated their thresholds like Nevada has, which is apparently now at 150 ng/ml (up from 50 ng/ml). White says Eye came in at 16 ng/ml. Nonetheless, she failed the test in the state and is under a one-year probationary suspension. Eye has since passed a pre-fight test in Nevada for her UFC 170 bout with Alexis Davis, and she will compete at the event.
Rousey will defend her title in the main event of that Feburary 15th card when she meets Sara McMann.
