Ben Askren is not one to shy away from telling the world what he feels, and yesterday's news of the UFC signing light heavyweight Pat Cummins gave him an opportunity to voice his thoughts on Dana White once more. Askren (12-0), currently with ONE FC, went to Twitter to question why Cummins (4-0) was signed to a contract while he "hasn't fought anybody":
@danawhite so I haven't fought anyone, but a guy who is 4-0 and opponents comb. record is 9-19 gets an immediate co main fight. Lets hear— Ben Askren (@Benaskren) February 14, 2014
Of course, Cummins (like most other recent UFC signings) is pretty much a dead certainty not to receive the same base salary was Askren likely would have, and was rushed in at the last minute due to injury coupled with a really thin division. That said, the "how come he's been signed but not me?" statement has been beaten like a drum by since Askren's negotiations with the UFC fell through. White has been adamant that Askren hasn't faced top competition and thus isn't ready yet to compete against the UFC's top welterweights.
Askren is scheduled to make his ONE FC debut in May against the winner of unranked Brock Larson vs. unranked Nobutatsu Suzuki for the welterweight title.
