Here are some of the better prospects in action this weekend.
Iron Cage Warriors - 14 Feb - Jastrzebie Zdrol, Poland
Mateusz Teodorczuk (11-2) vs. Vasily Fedorych (16-2)
Age: 24 Age: 22
Height: 5'10 Height: 6'0
Teodorczuk is part of the growing line of talent Polish fighters emerging across the European, and soon international MMA scene. He is riding an 9 fight winning streak, with his last win a submission over Paul Redmond opening many people's eyes. 7 of his 11 wins have come by way of submission.
Cage Warriors FC - 15 Feb - London, England
James Pennington (9-1) vs. Cory Tait (7-2)
Pennington is looking to grapple with his oppoenents as he has 7 submission victories to his credit. His only loss was to current UFC fighter Davey Grant back in 2012, and he has since rebounded with 3 victories. Another win here, would likely put him on the radar of the bigger organizations.
Danny Roberts (9-1) vs. Juan Manuel Suarez (13-5)
Roberts has a boxing and kickboxing background that he is building a pretty good all around game off of. He has very good athletic ability and uses his own takedowns occasionally, but can also be vulnerable to his opponents takedowns as well.
ASAP - 15 Feb - Mohegan Sun Casino, CT
Tyler King (7-1) vs. Eric Bedard (5-4)
King played College football for UCONN and then followed his father's footsteps into the NFL for brief stints with several teams including San Diego, and St. Louis. When his brief career finished up, he immediately began a move into MMA to feed his competitive fire. King has a bunch of upside based on his athletic ability, but needs to refine the technical aspects of his game. This fight is a rematch from their 2012 fight that King won by TKO. King may be fighting for a spot on the Titan roster, as they had some interaction last week as Titan put out the call on twitter looking for HWs.
WCFC - 15 Feb - Sacramento, CA
Anthony Avila (12-2) vs. Josh Berkovic (4-0)
Avila looked like he was about to be the next Team Alpha Male fighter to graduate to the UFC as he carried a 10 fight winning streak into his last match. He lost by 3rd round submission to UFC veteran Caol Uno at a Vale Tudo Japan card last June. He now looks to rebound against Berkovic, who has a big opportunity against a quality fighter to put his name on the map.
Review from last week:
Tachi Palace FC - 6 Feb - Lemoore, CA
Joe Soto (13-2) was able to get the stoppage over Jeremiah Labiano in the 3rd round. With four stoppage wins in a row, I wouldn't be surprised to see Joe get another shot at one of the bigger shows, UFC included. Just my personal opinion, but if WSOF hasn't offered Soto a contract by now they are negligent in running their company. He would be an interesting challenger for Marlon Moraes after 1 or 2 fights in the organization.
Cain Carrizosa (6-0) only needed 30 seconds to get the KO over Chris Quitiquit.
Nitrix Champion Fight - 8 Feb - Santa Catarina, Brazil
Luis Rafael (25-0) submitted Gabriel Fernandes (2-3) in the 2nd round. Rafael is now expected to begin competing under the Titan promotional banner, so we will probably see him a little less active and against a higher level of competition.
C3 Fights - 8 Feb -
Tyler Shinn (6-2) dropped a split decision to Aaron Phillips (7-0). I'm unsure what weight class this fight happened at, as Shinn was originally scheduled to fight Jonathan Lopez (4-4) at a 130lbs catchweight. When I looked up Phillips, he is listed as a 145lbs fighter.
CFFC - 8 Feb - Atlantic City, NJ
Jonavin Webb (5-0) picked up a 2nd round submission over Whitney Jean Francois (2-4).
Island Fights - 8 Feb - Pensacola, FL
Dillon Cleckler (4-0) picked up a 2nd round submission over Bryan McVea (2-4).
Cage Sport - 8 Feb - Tacoma, WA
Multiple time BJJ World Champion Miriam Cordosa (0-1) dropped her first pro MMA fight to Katie Howard (1-0)
RoadFC - 9 Feb - Seoul, South Korea
Mikihito Yamagami (10-3) dropped a UD to Nam Jin Jo (10-6).
I'm not perfect, if I've missed a prospect let me know in the comments section.
