Top Prospects to Watch this Weekend

Here are some of the better prospects in action this weekend.

Legacy FC - 31 Jan - Houston, Texas

Henry Cejudo (5-0) vs. Elias Garcia (4-0)

Age: 26 Age: 27

Height: 5'4 Height: 5'4

Cejudo will be my #1 FLW prospect when I finish up that piece, hopefully next week. He is the 2008 Olympic Gold medalist, and one of the more exciting prospects to hit MMA... ever when you consider his amateur accomplishments, and relatively young age.

If you missed it, Patrick Wyman has a great look at Cejudo in his "Searching for Future Champions" piece.

Havoc Fighting Championship - 31 Jan - Red Deer, Alberta, Canada

Mike Davis (11-3) vs. Malcolm Gordon (3-0)

Age: 26 Age: 23

Height: 5'8 Height: 5'6

Davis has won 8 in a row, and 11 of 12 since starting his career 0-2. He has finished three of his last four fights by submission and has five submission to his credit. His brother Tyler is also currently riding a nice eight fight-winning streak as a Bantamweight.

SteelFist Fight Night - 31 Jan

Jon Neal (5-0) vs. Aaron Sutton (4-4)

Age: 25

Height: 5'11

After sitting out all of 2012, Neal returned in 2013 to scored two submission victories. Jon wrestled in high school, and took his first fight in 2008 with little MMA training. He is now dedicated to the sport and rounding out his game.

Best of the Best - 1 Feb - Harlingen, Texas

Ryan Spann (4-0) vs. Randy McCarty (1-1)

Age: 22

Height: 6'5

Training with American Top Team's affiliate in Beaumont, TX, Spann has submitted his first four opponents as a professional. His height and long frame give him some great tools to build with at Middleweight.

Spann Highlights

Review from last week:

RFA - 24 Jan - Los Angeles, CA

Brian Ortega (8-0) picked up the RFA FW title with a hard fought five round SD over Keoni Koch (5-1).

Pedro Munhoz (10-0) needed less than a minute to submit Billy Daniels (7-1). Munhoz has nothing left to prove on the regional scene and if this fight doesn't get him into the UFC then I don't have any explanation for you.

CES MMA - 24 Jan - Lincoln, Rhode Island

Bekzod Abdurakhmonov (5-0) scored a first round RNC victory over Andrew Osborne (7-8)

Rob Font (9-1) submitted Ahsan Abdulla (5-5) with a Brabo choke in the 1st round to retain his CES FW title.

Ring of Combat - 24 Jan - Atlantic City, NJ

Frankie Perez (8-0) submitted Mike Santiago (9-9) in the 1st round. After the fight he sent a tweet to Dana White, and UFC letting them know that he was ready to step in if they needed a 155lbs fighter on short notice for UFC 169.

Julio Arce (5-0) picked up a UD over Jason McLean (6-7).

Keith Berish (5-0) recorded a 1st round RNC submission over Ariel Sepulveda (6-7)

2007 NCAA National Champion Gregor Gillespie (1-0) recorded a 1st round TKO over Kenny Gaudreau (2-1) in his pro debut.

CFC - 25 Jan - St. Petersburg, Russia

Dmitriy Sosnovskiy (8-0) blitzed Alexander Emelianenko (23-7) to get a 1st round stoppage.

Sosnovskiy vs. Emelianenko

Edvard Vartanyan (5-1) continued to build some big momentum to his career with a UD win over Benjamin Brinsa (13-2). 2013 was a big year for Vartanyan as he scored quality wins over Sergey Khandozhko (14-1), and Florent Betorangal (14-9) and it looks like he is picking up where he left off in 2014.

Thanks to Da Headbanger who pointed out that I missed Clay Collard (12-4), from the Pit Elevated fight team, who picked up a UD win over Jason Brenton. This follows up a September victory over UFC vet Justin Buchholz.

I'm not perfect, if I've missed a prospect let me know in the comments section.
