Titan FC signs former UFC fighters George Sotiropoulos, Iliarde Santos

Titan Fighting Championship has added former lightweight contender George Sotiropoulos and flyweight Iliarde Santos to the fold, and both will debut in April.

As mentioned in an earlier piece, the "new" Titan Fighting Championship has been searching for quality veterans to sign to their roster, particularly released UFC and Bellator fighters, and they've picked up two more. TUF 6 alum and former lightweight contender George Sotiropoulos joined the promotion yesterday, and today Bloody Elbow has learned that flyweight Iliarde Santos has also signed. They will both debut in April as part of Titan FC 28, which airs live on CBS Sports Network.

Sotiropoulos (14-6) was once a top 10 caliber fighter in the lightweight division, rattling off 5 wins with no defeats from 2009-2010, but in the past 3 years it's been a disastrous run of results for the Australian. He lost a decision to Dennis Siver and then suffered back to back knockout losses to Rafael dos Anjos and Ross Pearson, before getting cut by the UFC after losing to K.J. Noons. He's known as a Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist with great submissions, but beyond that his chin has not been able to hold up against better strikers, nor has he been able to effectively take his last four opponents down.

Santos (27-9-1, 1 NC) had a rough time in the UFC and was bounced after losing all 3 bouts against opponents presently ranked in the top 10 of their respective weight classes. The Brazilian took on bantamweight Yuri Alcantara on short notice and was wiped out in a round before losing a FOTN decision against Ian McCall and by TKO against Chris Cariaso. All of his UFC action took place in Brazil, and his upcoming fight will mark his first one outside of his home country.

Other notable Titan FC signings made over the past few weeks include Jorge Gurgel, Mike Ricci, Matt Riddle, Michael Kuiper, and Kurt Holobaugh, all of whom will compete at Titan FC 27 in Kansas City next month.
