World Series of Fighting 8 had more than its fair share of production issues, but in the end the top fighters delivered quality violence. Justin Gaethje won the WSOF Lightweight title while Jessica Aguilar won the Strawweight belt, both the first title holders in their weight-class for the WSOF. Anthony Johnson also got a huge win to enter into free agency.
Here are look at the individual fight results and gifs.
Justin Gaethje took an early shot that appeared to rock him, but he recovered quickly to put an ungodly beating on Rich Patishnock.
Anthony Johnson entered free agency in a big way with a quick and dominating knock out win over Mike Kyle. This fight was pretty much all Johnson as his striking looked crisp and very powerful. It will be interesting to see what is next for Johnson.
Alida Gray was overwhelmed in this fight as Jessica Aguilar was able to drag her to the ground several times, and lock on a quick arm triangle to finish the fight.
First round was a kickboxing round, where they traded strikes at range. Tyson Nam dropped Cody Bollinger at one point and it appeared Bollinger was in trouble but he managed to recover quickly. The second round was more of the same as the two traded strikes at range with out much decisive action. The third round was much the same as neither fighter really turned on the offense, but Bollinger did basically nothing. This fight sucked, Nam likely should have won, but he had a chance to really put a claim on this fight and didn't.
Jorge Patino got Luis Palomino down early, and it was pretty clear Palomino was stalling but it did earn the stand up from the ref. Palomino unloaded some wild hooks towards the end of the round, but once in the clinch spent the rest of the round fighting off a guillotine from Patino.
In the second round Palomino found his range and began tagging Patino, whose takedowns became more and more desperate.
The preliminary fights air on a live stream on WSOF.com that was absolutely brutal. It was marred by long patches of buffering, awkward hot mic moments, and dirty camera lenses. So to kick off this off is a gif that sums up the majority of fans' experience with this stream.
Valdir Araujo was winning this fight we excellent body work, some excellent kicks to the ribs clearly hurting Tyler Stinson. But Stinson was able to land a picture perfect straight right hand that dropped Araujo.
Alexis Vila, a former Olympic Wrestler, had a spirited match with Renzo Gracie fighter Sidemar Honorio. In the end the active guard of Honorio was outweighed by the takedowns of Vila.
This was a hunt and peck battle on the outside as both fighters kept their distance and jumped in with offense. Assuncao threw single power shots as counters as Hansen threw combinations as the aggressor. Two judges thought Assuncao's power shots deserved the nod.
This one was over quickly as Jose Cacaeres dives right into a heel hook by Anderson Melo.
