Best fights that could of happened part 2

Royce-gracie-ufc-1-champion_medium

via www.yellmagazine.com Alright onto to part 2 of the series. Also I appreciate everyone who takes time out of there day to read my stupid little article, has I saw on part 1 53 people voted which was pretty cool since I thought maybe 5 people would.Ok enough of that shit now this fight to me should have no doubt have happened. The fight I speak of is Royce Gracie vs Mark "The Hammer" Coleman. This fight would of been between two of the best fighters from the Dark Ages of Mixed Martial Arts and it could have easyily have happened if Royce wouldn't have taken a 5 year hiatus and also could of happened in the Pride Grand Prix 2000. Now during the time period of when they could have fought both guys where at the top of the sport. Royce had won three Ufc tournaments and Mark Coleman had won two Ufc tournaments and unified the Ufc heavyweight championship and Ufc superfight championship.Royce biggest victories were over Ken Shamrock and Dan Severn. In the fights with Shamrock and Severn you got to see how good Royce's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu really was. In every other fight in the Ufc that Royce had was a complete blow out. He was fighting guys who didn't even know what a sprawl was or even understand what a guard was.Hmmm let's see you lock your feet across your oppents back man that was hard to figure out.In his first fight with Shamrock Royce started the fight with a sloppy shot that ended up into a little bit of a scramble in which he was put up against the cage and then pulled guard. Now after that shit gets real. To me this was the first time in a UFC fight were both guys knew what they were doing. Shamrock postured up and attemped a leg lock and instead Royce countered and ended up on top and proceded to work until he locked in a rear naked choke. Now I don't know what it is but that moment when Royce locks in the choke is one of my favorite moments of MMA. Mark Coleman f*cking smashed guys. When Mark first came into the UFC he kicked major ass. He would take guys down and just beat them up bad and was one of the first guys to really f*ck people up with ground and pound. In his fight with Don Frye he just Wrestle F*cked him and put on an old fashined ass whoopin. Frye was helpess against Coleman's hammer like pubches raining down on him. Royce Gracie Skills Dissection- Royce had almost no striking at all the only time he would really throw a strike was to step up his takedowns or to get to the clinch. However Royce at the time made up for that with his BJJ. When he would close the distance to clinch and then take a guy down he did whatever he wanted to. On top he would lay down punches to soften guys up and then when he wanted to submitted them. On his back Royce from the guard could throw up an armbar or a triangle if he had to but he also had flaws. A great example of those flaws are the matt hughes fight. When Hughes got on top he waited and didn't leave any openings and then beat the sh*t out of Royce. Now if your supposed to be this expert at fighting off of your back you need to be able to get up. Like a lot of BJJ guys they are reluctant to try to get off there backs and instead just lay in guard until they become too tired to do anything. Mark Coleman Skills Dissection- Coleman was the "Godfather of the Ground Pound" Every one of his fights were won because of his wrestling. Never once do I remeber Mark Coleman every out boxing a guy or knocking them out on their feet. His wrestling was good. He could takedown just about everyone(even took fedor down). On top like I have stated before he had nasty ground and pound. Just really smashed guys faces in. Now he had really no striking like a lot of guys who came from grappling backgrounds in the early days. Now his submisson defense wasn't good. He was not that hard to catch into a armabar or triangle and if you could get on top of him and go for a submisson you'd probaly get it. Breakdown- This fight to me is very interesting. I can definetly see Coleman taking Royce down and beating him up bad. I can also see at the 15 minute Coleman exhausted and Royce locking in an armbar or triangle for the classic comeback win. The more likely thing I think would happen though is that Coleman beats Royce up. I think the fight would be like the figh Royce had with Dan Severn expect with nasty ground and pound. My prediction Mark Coleman by TKO Dynamic_resize_medium
