UFC 169: Barao vs. Faber 2 fight card

Anne-Marie Sorvin-US PRESSWIRE

A look at the slightly retooled UFC 169 lineup for February 1st in Newark, New Jersey.

The UFC's first PPV of 2014 was supposed to mark the return of Dominick Cruz, whose last fight was a bantamweight title defense against Demetrious Johnson in October 2011. Sadly for Cruz, he tore his groin and he's vacated his title, which now belongs to Renan Barao. He was previously the interim champ at 135 lbs but now he's the undisputed king of the division, and replacing Cruz is Urijah Faber, who lost the original interim title fight to Barao at UFC 149 in July 2012. Faber finished 2013 with a 4-0 record and he's getting his promised title shot on less than a month's notice.

Jose Aldo defends his featherweight belt against Ricardo Lamas in the co-main event of the evening. Consider the main and co-main event fights a WEC reunion tour, but in the UFC in front of a much larger audience than Versus. We had one other main card change, as Bobby Green is out of his lightweight battle against Abel Trujillo and has since been replaced by Jamie Varner. As for the rest of the main card? John Lineker and Ali Bagautinov will engage in flyweight violence while Frank Mir and Alistair Overeem compete in what is literally the only fight on this card above middleweight.
