UFC fighter rankings: 'Jacare' moves ahead of Bisping, Okami falls out of top 5

Jason Silva-USA TODAY Sports

Five ranked opponents fought on Wednesday's UFC Fight Night card in Brazil, but the middleweight division saw the biggest shake-up with Ronaldo Souza's knockout win over Yushin Okami.

UFC Fight Night 28 in Belo Horizonte had three fights with possible title implications, and in the end Glover Teixeira, Joseph Benavidez, and Ronaldo Souza all came out with huge wins. Teixeira has a confirmed title shot at light heavyweight, Benavidez has the strongest case for a rematch with Demetrious Johnson, and "Jacare" has solidified himself as a threat at middleweight.

Because Benavidez was ranked as the #1 contender at flyweight heading into his bout with Jussier Formiga, it's impossible for him to move up in the rankings. Glover Teixeira was previously ranked #2 before his main event TKO win against Ryan Bader, thus didn't move ahead of title challenger Alexander Gustafsson. However, Souza moved two spots from #5 to #3, ahead of Michael Bisping and Mark Munoz. Yushin Okami falls out of the top 5 and moves from #3 to #6 behind Munoz (#5) and Bisping (#4). The only other change based on the Fight Night card was John Lineker and Formiga swapping the 5-6 spots at flyweight.

Because the UFC rankings adds and subtracts media members after every event, the aggregate ranking totals can affect divisional placement even when the fighters involved aren't competing. Anderson Silva moved up to #3 pound-for-pound, while Jose Aldo dropped to #4. Phil Davis went to #3 at LHW while Lyoto Machida (who is dropping to middleweight) is placed at #4. Gray Maynard rose to #4 at lightweight, knocking Josh Thomson down to #5. Lastly, Tarec Saffiedine and Matt Brown switched the #10 and #9 positions at welterweight.
