Yves Edwards vs. Yancy Medeiros added to Fight for the Troops 3

USA TODAY Sports

Another bout has been added to UFC Fight Night: Fight for the Troops 3 with lightweights Yves Edwards and Yancy Medeiros facing off at Fort Campbell on November 6th.

UFC Fight for the Troops 3 has gotten another high action fight as massive lightweight striker Yancy Medieros has signed on to take on the crafty lightweight vet, Yves Edwards. It should be one of the final bout additions to the card which will include military vets and active service members Tim Kennedy, Liz Carmouche, Neil Magny, and Colton Smith. The UFC announced the addition on Twitter:

For Medeiros this is a big bounce back opportunity. He lost his last fight out via injury TKO after breaking his hand defending a Rustam Khabilov suplex. Medeiros spent the majority of his pro-career at middleweight before dropping to lightweight in his UFC debut. He definitely carries a huge frame into the cage at 155, to the point that he looks a bit skeletal. His striking looked really crisp against Khabilov early however, and Edwards, while not an easy fight wont represent the same level of grappling dominance.

For Yves Edwards this is a must win situation. He's currently on a two fight losing streak, and while both losses are by split decision they're also both to middling opposition. If he drops a third straight fight to Medeiros he may find himself on the outside of the UFC once more. At 36 he's been a successful staple of the top end of MMA's lightweight division for 16 years. It's an unbelievably successful career by any measure, but it may be that he finally starting to slow down to the point that he just can't keep up with UFC level competition. He didn't seem to get seriously hurt in either of his last two fights, but had trouble finding a rhythm and catching up to his opponents.

Fight for the Troops 3 takes place on November 6th and will be headlined by Lyoto Machida making his middleweight debut against Tim Kennedy. Here's a look at the full card:
