UFC 163: Champ Jose Aldo hospitalized post-fight with broken foot and kidney stones

Jason da Silva-USA TODAY Sports

After beating Chan Sung Jung via 4th round TKO at UFC 163, Featherweight champ Jose Aldo was hospitalized for his broken foot and recurring kidney stones.

UFC Featherweight champ Jose Aldo may be the pound-for-pound best fighter on the planet but that doesn't mean he's invulnerable. Turns out not only did he break his left foot kicking Chan Sung Jung, "the Korean Zombie," at UFC 163, he also was hospitalized following the fight for kidney stones.

MMA Fighting's Guilherme Cruz has the scoop:

Dr. Marcio Tannure, the UFC's doctor in Brazil, told MMAFighting.com that the UFC featherweight champion was taken to Copa D'Or hospital in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro and diagnosed with kidney stones Tuesday. UOL first reported the news.

"I learned about this problem with Andre (Pederneiras, Aldo's coach)," Tannure said. "He had renal calculus (kidney stones) before. He needs to send me the results of the exams so I can check it. Andre told me it's not serious, and he probably already expelled the stones."

Sounds like Cub Swanson, Ricardo Lamas and the rest of the UFC Featherweight contenders might be waiting even longer than usual for a crack at Aldo's title.

UPDATE: MMA Weekly has the latest:

A Brazilian Athletic Commission representative confirmed Aldo's condition to MMAWeekly.com. He added that Dr. Tannure said Aldo already had a history of kidney stones and that on Wednesday he was already at home and resting.

Aldo will also have to undergo an evaluation from the Brazilian commission before he is approved to fight again, but Dr. Tannure made it sound like the kidney condition wasn't expected to be an issue
