It didn't take long for Sarah Kaufman to find a new opponent for her UFC debut. The former Strikeforce champion was originally scheduled to fight Sara McMann next week in Indianapolis, but McMann withdrew from the bout and Kaufman was pulled from the card. As of yesterday the UFC confirmed that Kaufman will fight newest signing Jessica Eye at UFC 166 in Houston. To make room for the fight, a bantamweight bout between Francisco Rivera and George Roop has been moved to UFC: Fight for the Troops 3 on November 6th.
Kaufman (16-2) has fought once in 2013, defeating Leslie Smith by split decision at Invicta FC 5. Prior to that she tried to reclaim the Strikeforce women's bantamweight title, but predictably ended with a quick armbar loss to Ronda Rousey.
Eye (10-1) was recently released from Bellator after the promotion chose to discontinue women's divisions. The 27-year-old is considered one of the best flyweights in the world, but because the UFC does not currently have a women's flyweight division, she will have to move up to bantamweight to face Kaufman.
UFC 166: Velasquez vs. Dos Santos 3 is October 19th in Houston, TX. It is not known where Kaufman/Eye will be placed, but it will probably be on the Fox Sports 1 preliminary card.
