UFC officially releases Reza Madadi (Updated)

Swedish lightweight Reza Madadi, already convicted and sentenced on burglary charges, is probably on his way out of the UFC according to Dana White.

To no one's surprise, Reza Madadi is unlikely to remain in the UFC if his recent conviction on burglary charges is upheld. In the post-fight media scrum, Dana White weighed in on the situation involving Madadi and made it clear that he's probably going to be cut: (via MMA Junkie)

"Yeah," White told MMAjunkie.com following Saturday night's UFC Fight Night 26 event in Boston. "If he stole a bunch of handbags and was convicted of it, yeah, I'm sure he's going to be cut."

An additional UFC rep said the company is expected to issue an official statement on the matter.

Madadi was sentenced to 18 months in prison after he and other accomplices broke into a handbag store in the Swedish capital of Stockholm. Police matched the broken glass at the store with the broken glass found on Madadi.

The 35-year-old denied the charges and has until September 6th to appeal the verdict. Obviously if he does appeal and the verdict is upheld then he can kiss his UFC career goodbye.

UPDATE: The UFC isn't waiting for an appeal. They've released an official statement announcing Madadi's release from the promotion:

Zuffa, LLC, owner of the Ultimate Fighting Championship®, released the following statement regarding lightweight Reza Madadi:

Following his conviction by a court of law in Sweden, the UFC organization has elected to terminate its relationship with Reza Madadi based on its Fighter Code of Conduct and the provision of its promotional agreement concerning fighter conduct.
