UFC Fight Night 26 results recap: Travis Browne vs. Alistair Overeem

Winslow Townson-USA TODAY Sports

Take a look back at the UFC Fight Night 26 heavyweight bout between Travis Browne and Alistair Overeem. Browne won the bout by knockout late in the first round.

In the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 26, Travis Browne (15-1-1, 6-1-1 UFC) weathered an early storm from Alistair Overeem (36-13, 1 NC, 1-2 UFC) before catching him with a front kick and pounding him out. Overeem managed to hurt Browne early, pounding him with punches against the fence and almost forcing the finish of the fight. Browne covered up well though, and the ref chose to it continue. Not long after that, Browne booted Overeem right on the chin, which sent the big man to the canvas. A few punches ended his night at 4:08 of the first round.

The win was Browne's second in a row and fifth in his last six bouts. Overeem suffered his second straight loss, both by knockout, and is making it harder and harder for the UFC to justify his hefty paycheck.

What was the high point of the fight?

The front kick. It was crazy that it landed and it was crazy to watch Overeem go down like that.

Where do they go from here?

Browne now has a signature win on his resume and is firmly entrenched in the middle of the top ten. There are a few different options for his next bout, but that likely won't be decided until two other big heavyweight fights take place - Frank Mir vs. Josh Barnett, and Daniel Cormier vs. Roy Nelson. Stipe Miocic might be an option too, but I don't see that as very likely.

Overeem might very be on his way out of the UFC with that loss. Being 1-2 in three fights isn't usually that bad for your average UFC fighter, but Overeem is anything but average. I personally hope that they keep him around for one more fight, and that fight is against Mark Hunt. They met before back in 2008 and Overeem picked up a quick win, but they're in much different positions now and it sounds like a great idea to me.

Watch now, later, or never?

Now. The fight featured a ton of action and it's absolutely worth your time to track it down and check it out.
