Perennial contender Urijah Faber stepped into the Octagon at UFC Fight Night: Shogun vs. Sonnen to face Bantamweight Yuri Alcantara. Alcantara put Faber in more danger of losing than any non-title holder has in the UFC. However, the former WEC champ rebounded to score the decision victory.

Faber trapped Alcantara against the cage while landing short punches and elbows. He didn't look to pass as he wore down his opponent with strikes. Faber countered Yuri's attempt to stand with a pass to half-guard. Alcantara looked for a trip as he stood up, but Faber countered with a wizzer to finish the round on top and landing blows.
In the third round, Alcantara tried to switch it up and make it a striking match. He stuffed Faber's first takedown attempt from the outside, but gave up the second. Similar to the first half of the second round, Faber rode out the 3rd from guard. He landed short elbows and punches to stay active. Alcantara threatened with submissions, but Faber maintained control to win the round.
